## Congratulations! You are registered and can now[ log in](/log-in) # Log in This page will guide you through the login process To log in from any device you just need to fill in the email and password fields When you are ready, click on the LOGIN button to log in and start using Smart Logger

If you forgot your password you can click on the specific button. Enter your registered email address. You'll then get an email with steps to reset your password. {% hint style="info" %} It may take a couple of seconds to send the email, wait until the app gives you a confirmation message {% endhint %}

# Log out This page explains how to log out You can Log out in the main app page ("My Smart Logs"). \ Click on your callsign on the top left. This opens up a side menu from which you can **Log Out**

# How to update the app? Wondering how to update the app? This page is going to briefly explain how updates work Smart Logger is a **PWA**, basically a website which can be installed on your device, being it your windows PC, your mac, or your smartphone or iPhone.\ \ When we release an update you should receive it instantly and the app usually self updates, so no need to worry about updating the app!
{% hint style="warning" %} Note that while you instantly receive the updates, you will see it the next time you open the app. {% endhint %} {% hint style="info" %} You can check the app version in the main app page ("My Smart Logs"). Click on your callsign on the top left. You'll find your version under **"Current build".**\ \ Under the Current Build button there's the "**Force Update"** button, clicking this will force an update of the app.\ From this menu you can also **Log Out** and **Change your Callsign** {% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %} **If you want to force an update manually, or you are not logged in and want to update the app:**\ On android / iOS just **refresh the page a couple of times** and close and reopen the app/browser\ On PC / mac or tablets with keyboards: just press **SHIFT + F5** to force a page refresh without cache {% endhint %} # How does Synch work? With synchronization, every logbook you create is seamlessly accessible on all your devices, ensuring you have your records at your fingertips anytime, anywhere. ## Use cases Let's imagine you are planning to go on a trip, you take with yourself your tablet or laptop and you create a logbook on that device. After your trip, when you come back home, you want to check your logs on a bigger screen (or on your smartphone if you'd like). With smart logger sync feature you **just have to open the app** on your PC to view all your logged contacts **instantly**, without even touching your tablet. ## Data loss prevention Another big advantage of synchronization is that all your logbooks are **backed up in the cloud**. In the event of a device failure or data loss, you'll have a copy of your data available to you, just open the Smart Logger app on any device and you'll find it! {% hint style="info" %} If you are offline during your activation or trip, your logbooks will be synchronized as soon as you have internet access {% endhint %} {% hint style="info" %} You don't need to have every device active at the same time to allow for synchronization, every time you log in (even from a new device) all your data is synchronized instantly. {% endhint %} # Create a logbook This page will go through the steps to create a new logbook ## Step 1 Click on "**create new log**" button

## Step 2 Choose a title and a template for your new log and hit "**create**"

{% hint style="info" %} At the moment **Parks on the Air,** **General, Contest and Field Day** templates are available, stay tuned for new additions! {% endhint %} # Rename a logbook Want to change the name of your logbook?, this page has got you covered Step 1 Click on the "**pencil icon**" next to the logbook you want to rename

## Step 2 Edit Log Title or Date, then click "**SAVE**"

# Delete a logbook Spring cleaning?, this page will show you how to delete your logbooks ## Step 1 Click on the "**Trash bin icon**" next to the logbook you want to delete

## Step 2 Confirm deletion of the logbook by clicking "**DELETE**"

# Merge Logbooks To merge two or more logbooks you just have to click the "merge" icon next to the first logbook you want to merge

A modal will open allowing you to check one or more logbooks to merge with

Once you'r done, just click merge, a new log will be created, without modifying any of the existing ones

{% hint style="info" %} The log settings and the title will be taken from the first chosen logbook {% endhint %} # Settings Settings allow you to customize your experience with Smart Logger

You can access the settings window by clicking on this button

## The settings menu Some of the settings are self-explanatory, in this section we will cover the "trickiest" ones.

*** ### Band selection to auto frequency input When enabled, this setting allows the software to automatically populate the frequency input with the lowest available frequency for the selected band. This means that, with this setting active, if you select 10m band from the dropdown list, the frequency field will be automatically filled in with 28 MHz

*** ### Auto Mode selection based on Band Plan When enabled, this setting allows the software to automatically select the mode according to the frequency or band you insert. *** ### Use Lite Map By enabling this setting, you'll always access the offline version of the map, which can help you conserve mobile data and improve performance on slower devices.

*** ### Dupe check When activated, our duplicate checking algorithm will identify duplicate QSOs and provide you with alerts.

*** ### Post Activity Logging This setting allows you to change the default behaviour of the time and date inputs. When it is active, the state of theeese fields (either paused or in sync with the current time) will be saved, so that, if you reload, or create a new log, the time will be always paused (or in sync) *** ### HotKey Editor This button opens a menu which allows you to change the hotkeys used in Smart Logger for quick actions. *** ### Spot default comment This button opens a menu to customize the default comment for POTA spots, see more [here](/pota-template/spot-default-comment) *** ### Default RST values You can personalize the pre-filled RST values displayed in the RST SENT and RST RCVD fields of the log according to your preferences.\ \ Since RST values for CW mode are usually different, you have the option to customize them separately You can choose to keep the RST sent and received values identical or modify them as needed; simply click the checkbox.

*** ### Show Logbook Title If this setting is active, the title of the logbook will be displayed on top of the logging page. *** ### View Date in Log Table With this enabled, an additional column will be added to the qso list, displaying the date of the QSO {% hint style="info" %} You can always hover over the time for every qso to view the date. Even with this setting disabled. {% endhint %} *** ### Display Mode This setting lets you either enforce a specific display mode or allow the app to automatically select the optimal option for your device.

### Lan Functionality Switch This is a "master switch" that allows you to turn off completely any functionality related to the local network / local connection, this includes the rig control and the lan sharing functionality ### Lan Sync Settings & Rig Companion Theese buttons open up specific menus to configure the two functionalities, for additional info see sharing[LAN logbook sharing](/lan-logbook-sharing/introduction-and-setup) and [rig control](/rig-control/introduction-and-installation) # Share a Logbook To share a logbook with a Smart Logger user, simply click on the share icon located next to the logbook you wish to share.\

Simply enter the valid email address of a Smart Logger user and click "**Share**".

At the moment you can only share a log with another Smart Logger user, if you would like to share with other means please let us know! # Import ADI files Need to import .adi files, this page will show you how to import . adi or .adif files without effort ## Step 1 Click on "**IMPORT .ADI**" button

## Step 2 Choose a file from your device, a template and hit **IMPORT**

You will now see your imported logbook in the list, with the name of the file you provided {% endhint %} # Export ADI file Need to export one of your logbooks as an .adi file? This page has got you covered. To export one of your logbooks as an .adi file just click on the Download icon next to the logbook you want to export.

It will download an ADI file with all your QSOs
**For POTA template**\ If you've created a 2fer, 3fer, or more activation by adding multiple parks in the 'MY PARK' field of the log settings, the app will **automatically download separate files** for each of your parks {% hint style="info" %} **You don't need to create additional logs for each park, Smart Logger takes care of it!** {% endhint %} # POTA - Tabs The page is organized in 6 main Tabs

## HOME Button Returns to the main "My Smart Logs" Page. ## [LOG settings](#log-settings) ## [LOG](#log) ## [MAP](#map) ## [SUMMARY](#summary) ## [POTA SPOTS](#pota-spots) ## [RECEIVED SPOTS](#received-spots) # Log Settings When you first create a log you will be asked some general information about your activity. While most fields are optional, they may be required if you intend to upload the log to certain websites.

{% hint style="info" %} You can change any field at any time, even during activation, just note that the setting change will not have effect on the already added QSOs {% endhint %} {% hint style="info" %} To navigate between fields just press "TAB" {% endhint %} ## Callsign This is your callsign, pre-filled with the one from your profile. However, you can change it at any time, even during activation. ## My Park Enter your park (or parks) here. You can include as many parks as you like; Smart Logger will handle the log export by creating separate logs for each park when the time comes. {% hint style="info" %} "When entering the park, there's no need to include dashes or commas; simply type the letters and numbers, and Smart Logger will automatically format them for you. \ \ For example, typing 'it0821it0822' will be converted to 'IT-0821, IT-0822' automatically. {% endhint %} ## Frequency Enter your frequency in either KHz or MHz, and the app will automatically convert it for you. If you're accustomed to writing frequencies with a .0 at the end (as required by the POTA website), the app will handle that as well! ## Band Your band will be automatically calculated when you enter the frequency. If you leave the frequency field empty and select a band, a default frequency corresponding to the start of the selected band will be automatically used. {% hint style="info" %} You can change this behaviour via the [settings](/basic-functionality/settings) {% endhint %} ## Mode Your mode, if you select CW the app will use default RST values that you can configure in [settings](/basic-functionality/settings) ## Power Your power, in Watts ## Date Current date. By clicking on the pause icon, you can enter a custom date, which is useful if you're transferring a log you previously wrote on paper. ## Show more settings Button This button allows you to show or hide additional settings that may be useful in certain situations. Fields such as "My Rig" and 'My Antenna' persist between logs, although you can always modify them as needed. If the "Club Callsign" field is filled in, it will be used as the "Station Callsign" when exporting the ADI file.

## Add POTA spot Button "If you click on that button, a window will open, allowing you to send your spot to the POTA cluster. Simply fill in the comment if you wish, then hit 'Send.' \ All other information will be automatically pulled from the fields you filled in earlier.

## Are you ready to start Logging? just press on log in the top menu! # Log This is the page you''l be seeing most of the time! Lets get to know all its features!! {% hint style="info" %} To navigate between fields just press "TAB" {% endhint %}

The top bar displays your Frequency, Band, Mode, and Park. {% hint style="info" %} If you click on Frequency or Mode, you can change them directly without navigating to the log settings! {% endhint %} Right under you have your main input section: ## Callsign Respondent's callsign: This field will be automatically formatted and looked up to retrieve the name, locator, and other useful information. {% hint style="success" %} Callsign Lookup now works also offline! {% endhint %} ## RST sent and Received RST codes. You can configure default values in [settings](/basic-functionality/settings) ## Park Respondent's park: This field will be automatically formatted like your park in the log settings and looked up to retrieve the park name, locator, and other useful information. {% hint style="success" %} Park Lookup works also offline! {% endhint %} ## Time Similar to the Date field in settings, you can pause it to enter custom times. ## Notes QSO Notes: If you have additional information you'd like to remember, simply add it here. QSOs with compiled notes will be highlighted. ## WWL This field will be automatically filled in most cases, but you can change it if you wish. ## SAVE utton This saves the QSO and adds it to the list. If you are online and have synchronization enabled, it will be backed up instantly. ## RE-SPOT Button This button allows you to send a re-spot. All information, except for the comment, will be pre-filled from the fields you have filled in earlier. Just click 'Send' to re-spot the activator on the POTA cluster.

{% hint style="info" %} If you forget to re-spot before saving the qso, you can always do it from the qso options (gear icon) {% endhint %} ## RECORD Button This button allows you to start QSO-specific recording. It uses your device's microphone input to record audio related to each QSO. Each time you hit 'Save,' a new recording is saved, and you can later listen to and download the recordings for each QSO in the list. {% hint style="info" %} Just click it at the beginning of your activity, and you'll have a recording for each QSO, allowing you to listen, review, or share it with others! {% endhint %} ## CLEAR Button This button clears all the fields above. ## Extended View This toggle switch lets you show or hide additional fields in the QSO list. ## QSO list This is where all your QSOs are listed, by default only the first 50 qsos get shown, you can show all of them by clicking "Show All" at the end of the list. ## Check P2P This button initiates a cross-check to verify the P2P QSOs you have in the list. Discover more details [here](/pota-template/check-p2p) ## Callsign lookup This button manually triggers a lookup of all the logged callsigns, automatically updating all the relevant fields. ## QSO row Each row will display all the QSO information you entered or that was fetched:

Below, we present details for only the columns with specific functions, while the others are fairly self-explanatory. ## Callsign Respondent's callsign: It can be clicked to access the QRZ page of the user. ## PARK Park reference code: It can be clicked to access the park's page on the POTA website. ## P2P If a P2P QSO is detected, a 'P2P' icon will be added. It performs a cross-check between your QSO and the most recent uploaded logs of the respondent's park. \ \ If a match is found, it means the user has uploaded their log, and a green check icon will be added next to the P2P icon in the QSO list.

The buttons may change depending on which QSO is clicked. For example, if you have a recording saved locally for that QSO, a button to download the recording will appear. ## Delete This deletes the QSO, and you will be asked for confirmation before it is permanently removed.

## Notes In this window, you will find any QSO notes you wrote when creating the QSO. You can edit, delete or add any note as needed.

## RE-SPOT If you forgot to re-spot from the QSO input section before saving, you can do so here. The window is identical. ## Edit This window allows you to edit your QSOs. You can change any field you see. Lookup and formatting are active for all fields where required (such as callsign, park, frequency, etc.).

{% hint style="info" %} If you are certain that the QSO was made via long path by bouncing the signal off the ionosphere, you can check the 'Long Path' icon. This will adjust the map display accordingly. {% endhint %} # Map This section displays a map of all the QSOs, and you have various display options available.

# Summary This section provides a summary of your activity.

By clicking on 'Best DX QSO,' you will be taken to the row of that specific QSO # POTA Spots This section retrieves all the latest spots from the POTA cluster and displays them.

You can choose to filter the list by BAND, MODE, and PROGRAM. The list can be sorted by Frequency, Time, Activator, Mode, and Park Reference. {% hint style="info" %} To log one of the activators, simply click on the 'Copy' icon at the end of the row. {% endhint %} If a user has commented QRT, you will see a 'QRT' icon ![](https://436140338-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fz7yHG8TyYgRHM3Wg8AQC%2Fuploads%2F02cVemeSv0HeexMrn5kK%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=679e6877-22ea-4fa6-8fd4-266808dd937c) next to the activator's callsign. If you have already logged an activator, a 'LOG' icon ![](https://436140338-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fz7yHG8TyYgRHM3Wg8AQC%2Fuploads%2FdrXII0Ik9IoNXYYV3fXN%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=778cad92-8576-4110-89e7-e58c6735cbc2)will appear next to their callsign. \ You can choose to hide all QRT or LOGGED spots from the top filters menu. # Spot default Comment You can customize the default Spot comment by going in into the app settings form the main page and clicking on the "spot default comment" button.

By clicking on any of the top buttons, you can add dynamic information to your custom comment, like your callsign, mark etc... This info will be automatically filled in with the actual one when you spot from the logging page. # Received SPOTS This section allows you to retrieve all the POTA spots submitted during your activation. All POTA cluster spots are stored for 31 days. You can fetch the data by clicking on the appropriate button.

# Introduction & installation To control your rig with Smart Logger you have to download a companion app on your PC. {% hint style="info" %} Smart Logger Companion is based on the hamlib library, with hundreds of radio models compatible. {% endhint %} \ \ You can download it on your PC from the settings menu "RIG COMPANION"

{% hint style="warning" %} Since the companion app hasn't been downloaded many times yet, you may need to **confirm the download in the browser** and, when opening the installer, you may need to **click "More info" and "RUN" if smart screen opens** on windows.\ \ As more users download the application, Microsoft and Chrome will stop requesting confirmation. {% endhint %} {% hint style="success" %} You can also download the companion app from here: DOWNLOAD - WINDOWS {% endhint %} {% hint style="info" %} The companion is currently only available for windows, but more OSs are on the way! {% endhint %} # Configuration After downloading and installing the companion, if you open it, you will see it is already active and listening for connection to Smart Logger. You don't have to configure anything there, all settings are within Smart Logger itself!

When the companion is open and connected to SL, you will see an Icon pop up in your page. If a radio isn't connected it will be red. {% hint style="info" %} You can open the settings menu quickly by clicking on the red radio icon. {% endhint %}

In the settings menu you just have to input your radio model, choose a COM port (the one where you have connected the USB for communication with your radio) and the baudRate.\ After changing the settings, press save & restart to restart the companion with the new settings.\ \ \ After everything is set up and the radio is connected, you will see that the Icon turns blue, you can now control your rig from Smart Logger!

If you click on the blue Icon a popup will appear that lets you manually change the frequency and mode, but, if you activate "Sync", Smart Logger will keep frequency and mode synched between your radio and your log automatically!\
{% hint style="success" %} As long as the companion remains open, you can control your radio from Smart Logger. {% endhint %} # Introduction & Setup The LAN logbook sharing feature allows you to share one or more logbooks with other Smart Logger Users on the same Local Nework, no internet connection is required. All configuration and connection to the local server is done through the settings menu for LAN sharing, you can access it from [settings](/basic-functionality/settings) When you open the LAN sync settings and no server is connected, you will be able to download the file necessary to setup the server

The file you will download is just a docker-compose YML file, which will allow you to setup a local server on any device you'd like: an old laptop, a raspberry pi, a phone, or any of the laptops that will be used for the logging (although a dedicated machine is recommended) To spin up the server you'll need docker and compose installed, the installation instructions depends on the OS you are using on your device. Once the server is up and running, you can connect to it from the local network with any device,on multiple different accounts. Just change the IP address on the top "LAN DB URL" field and you'll see the interface change, allowing you to create rooms etc... *** ### A note on the SSL Certificate Since Smart Logger is a PWA, hosted through https with ssl encryption, it cannot communicate with non secure sources (http). This is the reason why you have to accept the certificate of your local server when you first set it up. To do this, just click on "accept certificate" and you'll be guided on how to do it, dont worry is a very simple and straighforward two step process! Once you are done, You'll be able to connect to the server and start sharing logs on the LAN! *** The LAN sharing is strucutred in **rooms,** you can create as many rooms as you like to divide participants in groups, for different days etc... THe important thing to keep in mind is that the logs are visibile to every user in a specific room only, so a user who joined room "A" will be able to see only logbooks which are in that room, and not another room "B".\ \ You can create and join rooms from the same LAN sync settings menua s you used to connect/setup server.

*** You'll notice that, after you have joined a room, a new blue section will appear on your main page, this is the shared logs list, there each user can create or open any logs as you would in hte main section. The "normal" logs are just below this section, thoose won't be shared with the room, and will be synced to your cloud space.
